U.K. vs. your home country: Where to train from ?

I am an MBBS graduate from India. But the comparisons might apply partially to your home countries’ health system and training programs as well.

How is post-graduate training in the UK different?

Advantages

Better quality of life in training

You have limited working hours which do not exceed like in training back home.

More structured training

Training programs are not vague and are well structured in terms of regular work based assessments . This helps in better identification of strengths and weaknesses of the trainee.

Disadvantages

Home sickness

You can feel home sick as you will be away from home. This can be helped if you are in constant touch with your family and take frequent trips to your home country ( not a problem as you have plenty of leaves throughout the year)

Racism

I personally haven’t witnessed any but some might feel discriminated. There is a no tolerance policy to racism in the U.K.. You can refuse treatment to patients if they are racist and you can complain if your colleagues practice it.
