How to get into medicine training in the U.K.?

The following is one of the pathways which many IMGs follow (but this is not the only one):

Step 1: Pass PLABs during your internship in home country( this will register you as a doctor in the U.K.)

Step 2: Work in a non-training post in internal medicine or its related specialties

Step 3: Get a CREST form signed by the consultant you have worked for,for 3 months

Step 4: Apply for Internal medicine training ( IMT ) ( This is similar to pursuing M.D. in India ) and interview for the post. This post will be of 3 years duration.

Step 5: Pass MRCP Part 1 , 2 & PACES (can be done during Step 2 as well)

Step 6: Apply for specialty training in the specialty of your choice (similar to pursuing D.M. in India) and interview for the post. The length of specialty training is variable according to the specialty of choice (3–6 years).

Completing this will lead to a CCT or certificate of completion of training and then you will be eligible to apply for a consultant post.
