Want to make your UK journey extraordinarily easy?

I've known a lot of people who get stuck when working towards getting a GMC registration and practicing in the UK. I have tried compiling various steps which you can take to make the process easy. Hope this helps you !

1. Take the OET

If you cannot get the required score in IELTS for the first time , don't make yourself miserable. A lot of people get stuck with that 6.5 in Writing section and feel sad about not having good language skills. Believe me , no one cares.

Take IELTS to start with .But if you cannot get the required score, jump straight to the OET. It's easy and it has a higher passing rate.

Now you can use the OET for your General Tier 2 visa application too ( unlike the past where only IELTS UKVI was acceptable .

2. Don't read books for PLAB 1

Solving questions is the key to success. Don't get yourself mugging up with OHCM and OHCS. No, reading Harrison's won't work too.

3. Don't waste your time solving all the question banks which you can find

Skip Samson's, skip Sush Unity's. Focus on PLABABLE and Dr. Khalid's questions along with the mocks.

4. Join a coaching for PLAB 2

It's not an easy exam to get through. Don't try to read up and appear in it on your own. You can read my PLAB 2 experience where I have talked about it in detail.

5. Book your exams well in time and plan your journey well

The dates get filled up soon. You don't want to wait for another 6 months for a date.

6. Go for an Observership

The number of candidates available for SHO posts are rising everyday. Trusts shortlist people with NHS experience more often than those with no experience. The need to go for an observership is not well emphasised in other blogs which I've read.

7. Don't be afraid to call the GMC if your registration process is taking longer than expected

Replies on mail take time. Call the GMC helpline if your issues are genuine , but don't bother them with a phone call every now and then. They need time to work on your application, and YES they are doing it to the best of their efforts.

8. Don't be too choosy when it is your first job in NHS

Take up any job , in any specialty , at any place in the UK. If you don't absolutely hate it , take it.

9. Read others' experiences but don't believe everything which is said

A lot of false information is spreading everywhere about practicing as a doctor in the UK. Always look at the official websites. Ignore the anecdotes.

10. Focus on your journey and do not compare yourself with others

Scores don't matter. Don't feel sad about getting few marks less than your friend in PLAB 1 or 2. Develop a positive mindset.
